1. Who we are

Babyloop is an online marketplace for second-hand baby and kids items, operated in South Africa. This policy explains how we collect and use your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

2. Information we collect

We collect the following when you use Babyloop:

  • Account information: name, email address, phone number, profile photo
  • Listing information: item descriptions, photos, price, location
  • Location data: city and area you select — we do not track your GPS location
  • Usage data: pages visited, listings viewed, searches performed
  • Payment data: payments are processed by PayFast — we do not store card details
  • Communications: messages sent between buyers and sellers on our platform

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Operate and improve the Babyloop platform
  • Verify your identity for the Verified Seller badge
  • Process payments for platform features
  • Send you notifications about your listings and account
  • Detect and prevent fraud, spam and prohibited content
  • Comply with our legal obligations under South African law

4. Information sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

  • Other users: your public listing details and the contact info you choose to share (name, WhatsApp number for listings)
  • PayFast: name and email for payment processing
  • Supabase: our database provider, for secure data storage
  • Authorities: when required by law or to protect the safety of users

5. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Deleted listings are removed from public view immediately but may be retained in logs for up to 90 days for fraud prevention. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us.

6. Cookies

We use essential cookies only — for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. Our platform does not display third-party advertising.

7. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion of your information, object to processing of your information, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including SSL encryption, Row Level Security on our database, and we never store payment card details. Access to user data is restricted to authorised Babyloop staff only.
